‘Carnival doesn’t play with y’all’: Cruise passengers warn against bringing drugs after new protocol
If you’re planning on sneaking drugs on a Carnival cruise, don’t. This is the advice that this user named Gloria (@coppertoneqt) gives to TikTokers. In a recent photo that has been viewed more than 516,000 times, he recounts the scene of the drug-smoking dog.
According to Gloria, the dog immediately closed the bag of another guest as if he had something illegal. Carnival staff removed the bag, which was outside the guest room. However, the guest was not there, but that did not stop the staff from revealing their names, because Gloria knew who the guest was when she saw the suitcase being taken away.
No party allowed
“Didn’t I tell you that Carnival isn’t playing with you all? We just saw these people get their suitcases taken away. The dog…
Then, he starts to walk towards the place where there is no camera.
“Let me show you all the other suitcases, wait. The dog was walking past the suitcases and the dog stopped, like…” he raises his hand, mimicking the dog’s behavior. “And they take a suitcase… Other people’s voices can be heard outside the frame.
He then pans the camera around to show a hallway with bags lined up against the wall. “All the suitcases were so low. And they came down here to these people,” he continued. “And the dog stood in front of the suitcase like, it’s drugs in here and they took the suitcase.”
As he closes the clip, he calls out the name of a passenger who had their suitcase taken away by Carnival staff.

Reproducing the ratchet?
Cruise enthusiasts speculate that Carnival’s new drug policies are part of an afterthought. This Quora For example, the discussion is about the popularity of Carnival among other visitors. Poster asks: “Why is Carnival Cruise Line so ghetto and janky?” And many seemed to agree with this assessment. One respondent called Carnival the “Walmart of Cruise lines”.
It doesn’t help that Carnival has been at the center of controversy surrounding passenger safety. The 2021 breach put consumer and employee information at risk. Also, the big passenger scrambles on board aren’t going to improve the phone’s image anytime soon.
Street it was reported in July 2024 that without enforcing data protection protocols, Carnival is still struggling with drugs. According to the agency, Carnival brand ambassador John Heald is targeting passengers who smoke pot.
“As for the drug sniffer dogs, let me say that, along with our zero tolerance laws and enforcement, they have made a huge difference in the problem of people thinking it is legal and permissible to use marijuana on the road. “Look at the boat. It’s not,” Heald said.
It is locked
The Daily Dot previously reported on a Cruise enthusiast’s anti-weed PSA for passengers. While some people who want to relax on a cruise may think that sneaking gummies on board is okay, it’s not. The TikToker would go on to explain that the risk is not worth the consequences. He adds that crowds of passengers are always caught with drugs. And because of the severity of the charges they face, TikTokers are unlikely to see messages from people who have been arrested.
A cruise expert says this sad reality is very different from other cruise-related videos. Like how a Carnival passenger shows how they sneak alcohol on board.
Carnival clearly states that its cruise ships are “drug-free zones.” This philosophy extends to places where pot is illegal. Oh, and if you’re a card-carrying medical marijuana user, you’re not exempt either. Carnival writes on its website: “Carnival recognizes that some US states have legalized the use of recreational and/or medical marijuana. However, carnivals are required by US federal law, strictly prohibits the possession and use of marijuana and other illegal substances. Therefore, marijuana, including medical marijuana, is not allowed on board.”
A divisive strategy
Some people, like this Reddit user, applaud Carnival for its strong stance. “Carnival is finally using drug dogs…no more smelly corridors and balconies,” they wrote.
One commenter who responded to Gloria’s video said that they wear drug dog checks by hiding their bags in their room. However, the TikToker said that this is not a foolproof solution. They look at the harbor too! you wrote.
It seemed that someone supported Gloria’s warning. “I was on a day trip last month to Jamaica, they had a dog walking the desk every day,” they wrote.
And another thanked them for seeing Gloria’s post. “I’m going to my first carnival ride on Friday and I was getting my greens when I saw this video for a reason,” they said.
The Daily Dot reached out to Carnival via email with Gloria about TikTok’s comments.
